Despite the downturn in the traditional markets of Europe and the US, China's ports continued to grow in the first half of this year. Total throughput of its top 10 ports hit 75 million TEU, a rise of 9% compared to the same period last year, which is considerably better than Hi ll's year-on-year growth of only 0.1%. Shanghai remained in pole position with a throughput of 15.8 million TEU, representing a small increase of 3.7%, while Shenzhen's volumes only rose by 2%, to 10.8 million TEU, although this was considerably better than 201 l's full year growth of 0.3%.
