Thomas Preben Hansen joined Rickmers Trust Management, which acts as trustee manager of vessel owner Rickmers Maritime, in January 2007 and was tasked with growing the business following an IPO. The trust's ambitions were realised when it joined the big league in mid-2007 with an order for three 13,100 teu vessels. But within months, the global economic crisis hit and Rickmers Maritime's ambitious plans were scuppered. The trust struggled to raise finance for the vessel orders and eventually the Rickmers Group, which has a 33% shareholding in Rickmers Maritime, stepped in and took delivery of the vessels.
