Maersk Line gains ground over MSC in the battle for box volumes

Maersk Line extended its lead over second-placed Mediterranean Shipping Co as the world's busiest carrier last year, according to a new report from analyst Dynamar. The annual Dynaliners Millionaires report shows that the Danish carrier increased its annual container volumes by 5% in 2012 to handle 17m teu, but that MSC increased its liftings just 1% to 13.2m teu. However, French carrier CMA CGM grew faster than both its P3 network partners, with a 6% increase in annual volumes to 10.6m teu. Dynamar ranked China Shipping fourth, in terms of volume, and Cosco Container Lines fifth.
