In an industry that finds it hard to escape the herd mentality, NYK Line is trying to do things a little differently. Container shipping is frequently accused of commodity pricing practices that result in volatile market conditions and dismal financial margins. Only by breaking out of that cycle will carriers ever be able to deliver decent returns for their shareholders. NYK Line does not claim to have found a solution, but neither has it fallen in to the trap of just following the rest of the industry.
