Maasvlakte 2 opens for business

Rotterdam's Maasvlakte 2 port expansion area has opened to shipping at a cost €l50m ($194m) lower than budgeted for the €1.7bn North Sea land reclamation project. Port of Rotterdam Authority chief executive Hans Smits told an opening ceremony audience in May: "From today, Maasvlakte 2 is an integral part of the port area. The area is now accessible by road, rail and water."
