In the midst of extreme freight rate volatility in the container liner business in 2013, bunker costs offered much less excitement than in the past, providing ocean carriers with mostly consistent budget-meeting voyage costs for fuel. Moreover, Rotterdam-sourced IFO 380 trended at around $100 per tonne, lower in the first three months of the year than the $700 per tonne average for the same period of 2012.
