VOLUME GROWTH ON EUROPEAN ROUTES

On the basis of trade data available in mid-October, MDS Transmodal estimates that global trade (excluding intra-regional flows) has grown by some 5% in the first half of 2014 compared with the same period last year and is forecast to grow at the same rate by the end of the year. For this edition, MDST has monitored European trade lanes and, for the first six months of 2014, has estimated year-on-year growth rates of 5.8% and 4.5% for the routes leaving Europe and the Mediterranean and arriving into the region respectively. For the full year, MDST forecasts that these percentages might both improve by circa one percentage point.
