Dredging heavyweights share Suez Canal contract

Royal Boskalis, Van Oord, Jan de Nuland National Marine Dredging Co have won the contract with the Suez Canal Authority to dredge its new canal. Worth $1.5bn, the contract will be shared equally with each company receiving $375m for their part in the project, which was first announced by Cairo in August. The contract involves widening and deepening various sections of the waterway, including Balah, Devresoir and Bitter Lake, up to a depth of 24 m. A new 50 km channel running parallel to the existing canal will also be developed.
