Volumes on services from Europe to the Middle East have continued to increase this year. The latest figures from Container Trades Statistics show a 5.3% year-on-year increase during the first eight months of the year to 1.4m teu. This compares favourably with the 1.2% growth that was reported for 2013 as a whole. This year's boost in box volumes was led by cargo from the Mediterranean to the Middle East, which increased 8.1% during the eight-month period. Volumes from northern Europe were up by the lower level of 2.6%.
