Finally, results across the board for major lines are reflecting the dire condition in the global container shipping trade. Even mighty Maersk Line has issued a profit warning, downgrading its full-year forecast by $600m to $1.6bn. CMA CGM's third-quarter net profits were down 75%, although still up on the year to date. So what has been happening in the world's leading lines to lead to this difficult quarter and therefore 2015, and where will it all go in 2016? In fact little has fundamentally changed. It is just that the sector's long-standing troubles have got worse and most of the blame must be laid at the door of overcapacity and for some at inept management.
