Boxship scrapping set to remain high after near-record level in 2014

More than 1m teu of containership capacity was scrapped in the three years from 2012 to 2014 as demolition played a vital role in fleet management during a period of depressed charter rates and poor financial earnings for ocean carriers. With industry prospects still challenging, despite some improvement in the charter market, Clarkson Research says scrapping levels will probably remain high after recent record levels.
