Idan Ofer's Quantum Pacific Group and Emanuele Lauro-led Scorpio Group have exercised their three options for ultra-large containerships at Samsung Heavy Industries after sealing long-term charters to Mediterranean Shipping Co. The charters, which have been confirmed by a source close to the project, mean that MSC will control all six of the vessels for 15 years. The deals are believed to be bareboat charters, inked at about $46,000-$46,500 per day, according to one broker. However, the rate could not be immediately confirmed.
