CI: Given that no illegal activity was found by the European Commission during its recent investigation of container lines on suspected price signalling, was it a complete waste of taxpayers' money and Brussels' officials' time? Carriers have agreed to a new pricing model and an end to general rate increases. What outcome would the ESC like to have seen? ESC: Saying the investigation was a waste is strong. However, it could have been driven much further. By accepting the commitments offered by container carriers as Legally binding, the European Commission has failed to take a global approach to a global issue. Hence it is unlikely this will bring an end to co-ordinated price rises.
