THE third quarter of 2017 saw a significant turnaround from the corresponding period in 2016 in terms of financial results for container lines. In 2017, nine out of ten lines that had reported their results at the time of going to press showed some measure of profitability, compared with 10 out of 12 showing losses in 2016, when only Hapag-Lloyd and Wan Hai were in positive territory. For 2017 only Hyundai Merchant Marine failed to reach a profit.
