CMA CGM outperforms generally lukewarm third-quarter carrier results

CONTAINER lines have all now published their third-quarter reports for 2017, giving us the opportunity to review how the 2017 peak season affected carrier operational returns. Table 1 shows the third-quarter revenues of the twelve top-16 carriers that publish third-quarter reports, for every third quarter since 2010. In the third quarter of 2017, Maersk Line, CMA CGM, Cosco, and Hapag-Lloyd all recorded revenues of above 3bn. Maersk Line had the highest revenue in the third quarter of $6.1bn, followed by the next three largest operating carriers that report financial results: CMA CGM with $5.7bn, Cosco with $3.7bn and Hapag-Lloyd with $3.3bn. Of the rest, MOL had the highest 2017 third-quarter revenue of $1.8bn.
