Sydney is readying itself to host the first Olympics of the new millennium. The modern Olympics have reverberations far beyond the sporting world, presenting the host cities with an opportunity to showcase themselves for tourism and commerce to a global audience. Mike Haysler, Hyder Consulting Australia, gives a flavour of some of the significant structures that are making an impression on the Sydney skyline both in the city centre and at the main Olympic venue at Homebush Bay. These include two reinforced concrete high-rise commercial developments in Sydney's Central Business District and the Olympic baseball stadium at Homebush Bay.
