With millennium projects receiving considerable media attention, not all of it positive, the pressure is on to make a success of the various structures and attractions under construction in celebration of Y2K. The Millennium Footbridge will link St. Paul's Cathedral with the area around the new Tate Gallery of Modern Art, and looks set to be a triumph both aesthetically and in terms of its actual functionality. Roger Ridsdill-Smith, Ove Amp, traces the work in progress which is due to be completed in June 2000.
