Use of concrete in small and medium-scale Japanese building projects

The use of in-situ concrete for the construction of individual houses, small condominiums and offices is quite common in japan. This affords the engineer with many opportunities for structural innovation and expression. The author has chosen several concrete buildings designed by himself and his practice to illustrate some of these possibilities. Special attention is paid to the relationship between the structural and spatial design in each of them and the attempts made to unify structural and functional aspects.
