Variable ground on a former gas works site at Brentwood, Essex has led foundation specialist, Roger Bullivant Limited (RBL), to install a lesser known form of augured pile for the purposes of supporting new apartments. Rather than opting for the conventional continuous flight auger (CFA) form of pile, the company chose a variation on the technique by installing continuous helical displacement (CHD) piles.
