Just before midnight on 12 February 2005 a fire broke out in the 32-storey, 106m-tall Windsor Tower in Madrid's commercial and banking centre. Pictures of the burning tower made front-page news across the world. Despite the serious damage to the building, fortunately no casualties were sustained as it was empty when the devastating fire broke out.
