Reinforcing steel has been used on concrete road bridge construction since the early-20th Century, culminating to date in a complex global infrastructure of more than 3,000,000 bridges.rnNaturally, this vast network of structures contains a myriad of designs that are at differing stages in their life cycle. One thing however is common to all - every steel-reinforced concrete bridge must have a comprehensive planned preventative maintenance programme throughout its working life to ensure the continued performance of the structure under ever-increasing traffic volumes and to eliminate critical bridge failure.
