An investigation into the detection and mitigation of denial of service (DoS) attacks: critical information infrastructure protection

This edited volume contains reports from a collaborative research project on denial-of-service (DoS) and distributed denial-of-service (DDoS) attacks. The project was conducted by the Society for Electronic Transactions and Security (India), five Indian institutes of technology, and the Queensland University of Technology (Australia). DoS and DDoS attacks are major threats to critical infrastructure (that is, the Internet and utilities using Internet communications). The volume is well organized into eight chapters: "Introduction," "Background," "Policy and Law," "DDoS Testbed," "Detection and Mitigation of High-Rate Flooding Attacks," "Cryptographic Approaches to Denial-of-Service Resistance," "Denial of Service Defense Appliance for Web Services," and "DoS Vulnerabilities in IPv6."
