This relatively short book is in fact the best available introduction to machine learning. Its main virtue is that it presents a deeply mathematical engineering discipline in simple but not simplistic terms. It may make many engineering undergraduates-and even practicing engineers-fear that they will not be able to really grasp the topic.The book explains the essentials of many approaches to machine learning while remaining very pragmatic. Every key topic is illustrated with relevant MATLAB script. The scripts themselves do not appear in the book (fortunately); readers can download them from the book's Web page.
