Business process reengineering (BPR) is a time-tested methodology for radically changing an organization's operational processes. BPR fits under the rubric of process improvement techniques as a revolutionary method, compared to other well-known methods that have a more evolutionary focus such as total quality management (TQM) or Six Sigma's define, measure, analyze, improve, and control (DMAIC) approach. Mohapatra states that the book was written for his own students and for information technology (IT) consultants.
