Credit cards, debit cards, prepaid cards, point of sale (POS) cards, and similar items have wide acceptance among the public. Identity theft, especially theft of cardholder data, has become a major problem [1,2] affecting the payment card industry. Card companies such as Visa, MasterCard, and American Express have helped to create the Payment Card Industry Data Security Standard (PCI DSS), an information security standard for institutions that handle cardholder data. The first edition of this book appeared in 2007 [3], and the second edition followed in 2010 [4]. This third edition covers compliance with PCI DSS 2.0. The authors are information security experts with considerable experience in PCI DSS.
