Towards advanced data analysis by combining soft computing and statistics

The European Cooperation in Science and Technology (COST) includes a research action (a collaborative research effort) on "combining soft computing techniques and statistical methods to improve data analysis solutions." The final publication of that research effort is this book, a collection of 28 papers on different aspects of the promising topic of combining techniques from soft computing and statistics for data analysis applications, authored by researchers from both fields. This excellent volume will serve as an introduction to an important merging of viewpoints. The papers are generally very good and the text is clear and readable. The mathematical rigor is high and nearly all papers include real-world examples or experimental data.
