An introductory programming textbook should have two aims: to introduce enough elements of the language to do some useful work, and, more importantly, to introduce the basic conceptual toolkit to do that work properly. These lessons can be transferred to other programming languages and will become useful for life. This book delivers on both counts. It would be a good choice for courses aimed at students with no prior experience. And, since programming will be useful to students in all academic disciplines, this would be an excellent textbook in the humanities.
