Are comprehensive quality models necessary for evaluating software quality?

The New Yorker once ran a cartoon by Tom Cheney in which a boy is sitting at a computer while his dad stands nearby holding a baseball and glove. The caption was: "Quality time? Do I have to?" [1]. This paper reminds me of that cartoon.Like the boy, the authors are intent on reducing time and effort-in this case, the effort needed to assess the quality of a software system. Their research examines the necessity of using comprehensive quality models, and compares models with hundreds of measures to focused quality models with much fewer.
