This is a nontechnical book written by two Wall Street journalists covering all aspects of cryptocurrency, especially Bitcoin, beginning with its inception up to what it might mean for the future. The authors tell the reader in simple terms what Bitcoin is and how it works. They reject the usual notion that Bit-coin is merely a currency whose digital units are used for the exchange of goods and services. Rather it is a technology, an encrypted system run over a network of computers, owned by people all around the world, that maintain a blockchain ledger of transactions. A more detailed, but still nontechnical, description about how the blockchain works is given in chapter 5.
