Recognizing that information management underpins efficient decision making in disaster situations, the authors "propose a strategy to form a community-based virtual database" to facilitate information sharing among a range of organizations. Challenges related to storing, retrieving, exploring, and analyzing large quantities of data from a number of diverse and distributed sources emphasize the importance of effective information management.
