Smartcards promise a solution to authentication, but they often require expensive readers. What if a sound could prove you are who you say you are? Known as acoustic smartcards, the technology uses an acoustic and reader-less plastic card as an authentication device, largely eliminating the need for passwords and logins. The size of a credit card, acoustic cards emit a different audio signal each time the tiny button embedded in the card is pressed. An encrypted database server stores your information.
