Foodies among the tech crowd may have caught a July 25 episode of real ity TV show Cake Boss that featured some familiar hardware. Chef Buddy Valastro created a fully functional communications cake for an SMB event hosted by Avaya Inc. The multi-tiered cake featured functioning replicas of Avaya phones and an IP Office control unit, set up on an edible conference table. Apparently, the highlight of the episode is a cake-based videoconfer-ence between Vlastro and an Avaya exec. (We say "apparently" because here at IT World, if it ain't NCIS, we don't watch it, and we're cribbing mercilessly from a press release.) In this videconferencing case study, it isn't the camera that's adding 10 pounds.
