Organizations all over the world are realizing the effectiveness of protecting people, places and infrastructures with advanced video surveillance systems to increase safety and security. Wireless infrastructure allows them to deploy and extend video surveillance capability such as intrusion detection/identification systems for mission-critical applications in a very flexible manner. Our work in this paper is to propose and evaluate new algorithms that optimize the alert propagation message diffusion on intrusion detection. The main idea of our algorithm is to reduce considerably the flooding of the alert messages by propagating them only for the list of the sensors located in the field of view (FoV) of the alerted sensor. This technique reduces the effects of message implosion but also reduces the amount of energy consumed in the entire network for intrusion detection and identification. Simulation results show that our optimized alert routing approach significantly reduce the consumed energy while maintaining a high intrusion detection quality.
