During the last years, the town of Oran has known a vast urban extension, and many other land cover changes. The follow-up of this fast urban evolution as well as the study of its influence on the ecosystem and quality of life in this region become necessary and even urgent. LANDSAT or other satellite images of Oran does not really reflect the reality, the measurements are noisy, low contrast and difficult to use. Making decision on images of Oran is a major analytical problem, the appliance of several Image processing is needed to extract semantic meaning from pixels and make good decision. The aim of this work is implementing a Spatial Decision Support System (SDSS) namely FCM-LAND, based on Fuzzy C-Means (FCM) algorithm, to extract useful information from LANDSAT Image of West Oran Algeria and establish a Land Cover map of this region. The proposed Spatial Decision Support System FCM-LAND is designed to support a decision research process for complex spatial problems, enables the decision makers to negotiate and investigate the possible trade-offs between conflicting objectives and to identify unanticipated, and potentially undesirable, characteristics of solutions. As part of this study, we are also interested to satellite image processing, our focus is on automatic extraction of homogeneous regions (urban, forest, etc..) from a LANDSAT 5 TM for the region of Oran (Algeria) using an approach based on FCM.
