A symbolic computation approach to constructing higher order rogue waves with a controllable center of the nonlinear systems is presented, making use of their Hirota bilinear forms. As some examples, it turns out that some higher order rogue wave solutions of the Kadomtsev-Petviashvili (KP) type equations in (3+1) and (2+1)-dimensions are obtained.
