Special Issue on 'Applications of computational intelligence and fuzzy logic to manufacturing and service systems'

The International Symposiums on Intelligent Manufacturing and Service Systems (IMS2012) was organized to disseminate recent developments, significant technical applications, case studies and survey results in the area of Intelligent Manufacturing and Service Systems and other related areas. IMS2012 was organized by the Department of Industrial Engineering, Sakarya University (Turkey) in Adrasan/Antalya, Turkey on 27th September, 2012. In recent years, intelligent manufacturing and service systems have remarkably evolved into large-scale enterprise systems, assisted by the advent of the internet of things, big data, and artificial intelligent technologies. These systems encompass a wide spectrum of activities and knowledge domains having significant social and economic impact. While the deployment of such systems would be most welcomed by enterprises and businesses with the advantages of increased productivity and profits, their design and deployment very often require a revolutionized approach. Papers included in the proceedings of IMS2012 and other papers submitted directly to the journal address many of these issues.
