Second screening use and its effect on political involvement in China: An integrated Communication Mediation Model

摘要

The use of second screening to express emotions and opinions while watching television has proliferated among media consumers. However, the relationships proposed so far between second screening and political outcomes are relatively limited in scope and simple. This study contributes to the literature in two ways. 1) We identify how second screening influences users' online participation through two mediators elaboration on social media and social media political efficacy. As such, this study provides empirical evidence of second screening's political effects by uncovering specific indirect mechanism. 2) Using a sample of second screeners in China, this study fills in a blank of the current Western-dominant second screening research.
