摘要

The National Hi-Tech Crime Unit, the first police unit in the UK to tackle organised computer crime, is under increased scrutiny as it approaches its third birthday in April. Over the past three years it has grown dramatically and overseen a huge expansion in the capability of local police forces to deal with computer crime. At the same time, computer crime has mushroomed. Devastating computer viruses, phishing attacks and extortion now feature regularly in the pages of daily newspapers. Yet many companies are still unwilling to report attacks for fear that a lack of police resources will make the exercise pointless.
