摘要

The government has promised sweeping changes to the way data is secured across Whitehall in the wake of a review to establish how CDs containing the details of 25 million child benefit claimants went missing. HM Revenue and Customs (HMRC) was "woefully inadequate" in its handling of corporate data. And its managing of sensitive data was a "muddle through", according to two independent reviews last week. Information commis-sioner Richard Thomas will serve notices re-quiring HMRC to make technical chang-es to secure its data fol-lowing investigations into the loss of the discs last year.
