It was 13 March 1989 when Tim Berners-Lee, working at the Cern laboratory in Geneva, came up with the concept that became the worldwide web. On that day, Berners-Lee presented his visionary paper on a simple mechanism for allowing the research community to share documents, based on a simplified form of Standard Generalised Markup Language (SGML).
