David Kelleher, research analyst, GFI Software The Information Commissioner's Office can now impose fines of up to £500,000 on organisations that recklessly put data at risk. While the words "of up to" are of significance and exactly what a "reckless" loss of data entails has yet to be defined in practice, the most important factor for the ICO to consider is that the fines, even ones as potentially hefty as these, must be backed up by naming and shaming.
