As the century began four years ago, the dot-corns dominated most every initiative in the IT industry, Y2K was driving countless irrational actions, the IT industry was experiencing several new architectures, and innovation was everywhere. Four years later, we've seen the dotcoms collapse, endured a prolonged recession particularly in the technology sector, painfully witnessed the weaknesses in most all aspects of security and have raised interest in data protection and disaster recovery technolo-gies to unprecedented levels. It's doubtful that any visionary could have seen all these events coming and developed the appropriate responses to deal with the issues in advance. Let's look at some of the biggest challenges that both users and vendors should consider regarding their storage strategy in 2004.
