A standard interface for site electronics based on modern fieldbus technology

Sometime in 1990, the mineral oil industry in mid-Europe considered it desirable to have a uniform system interface for the petrol station forecourt. The Physikalisch-Technische Bundesanstalt (PTB), the German national institute of metrology as an independent higher federal authority having gained specific experience in this area was requested to prepare a suitable research project. This has been carried out with financial support of mineral oil companies, and the DGMK German Society for Petroleum and Coal Science and Technology took over the organization of the project to demonstrate that the simultaneous operation of equipment fabricated by different manufacturers is possible without difficulty. Renowned European manufacturers have furthered the project by giving professional advice and providing equipment.
