The assessment of computer fault tolerance is commonly performed by means of experimental fault-injection. The toolset VIRUS presented here facilitates automated conduction of such experiments. Unlike many similar approaches, the Versatile Fault-Injection toolset with exactly ReprodUcible Single injections (VIRUS) attains detailed reproducibility of every single Fault-injection. A discussion of the theoretical background of fault-injection points out the benefits of this property, and also Reveals the difficulties in attaining a high degree of reproducibility.
