The role of metrology in economic and social development

The first part informs about the seminar "The role of metrology in economic and social development' organized by the Physikalisch-Technische Bundesanstalt (PTB) in collaboration with the Bureau International des Poids et Mesures (BIPM), The International Organization of Legal Metrology (OILM) and the International Measureemnt Confederation. The rationales For the seminar which took place in Braunschweig, Germany, as well as the results obtained are described. The second part Gies an overview of the International Measurement Confederation, IMEKO, its organization and programmes.
