Design methodology for secure distributed transactions in electronic commerce

A review of the methodological aspects of the design of secure distributed applications is presented. The authors identify a lack of structure in requirement lists for current electronic commerce projects and the adverse influence this deficiency has on the first and most important steps of the design process. Design techniques for complex environments are presented to avoid the development of unwieldy applications and standards. Applied to electronic commerce, these techniques lead to a five level framework with transaction, transport, user environment, system management, and business levels.
