Special issue of computer speech and language on 'affective speech in real-life interactions'

This volume presents a brief survey of the state of the art at the end of the first decade of the 21st century with respect to scientific studies of affect in speech, based on corpora of natural real-world data. When we issued the call for papers, we specified that only studies based on real-life interactions would be considered for inclusion in the volume, and clearly stated that studies based on laboratory data would not be considered. The collection of papers in this issue is the result. It seems that even today, the majority of science is based on an analysis of constructed materials, and very few research groups accept the challenge of tackling raw data collected in the wild.
