How Fast Are Two SSDs In RAID Level 0?

Enthusiasts have had a long-running love affair with RAID Level 0, two combined drives working in tandem and thus-theoretically, at least-almost doubling performance. The drawback, of course, is that if one drive fails, all data is lost, but because solid-state drives (SSDs) are much less likely to fail, it's a safer bet to put two of them together for a RAID Level 0 array. In our tests, two 32GB Memoright SSDs in a RAID Level 0 array performed extremely well, placing the two-drive combination near the top of our benchmark charts. The only rub is that the speeds weren't any greater than what the Mtron drives were capable of performing all by themselves. The array's 10GB read/write speeds of 5 minutes and 32 seconds and 6 minutes and 3 seconds were a hair slower than the fastest time, set by the Mtron Mobi. Its application-loading times of 2 seconds for Word 2007 and 7 seconds for Photoshop make the array second-fastest.
