Determining factors of the sprint performance in high-level BMX riders

In bicycle motocross (BMX) race, the start and the first straight line (~40m) are the most important phases (Bertucci et al. 2007; Zabala et al. 2009). Because it is difficult to overtake opponents during the race, the position of the riders at the end of the straight line usually determines the final rank (personal statistical data).
