Passive skeletal muscle mechanical behaviour: considerations for constitutive modelling

There remain significant uncertainties about the mechanical response of passive skeletal muscle tissue to external deformation, and therefore the scope for further experimental work is high. Furthermore, none of the existing constitutive models seem to be able to capture many of the observed physical load/deformation phenomena exhibited by the tissue. It is likely that a microstructurally motivated testing and modelling is necessary for significant future advances in this field.
